rant

You do all the things you're supposed to do, follow the rules, make all the adjustments, for what??

Sometimes things just doesn't work the way you like/plan it.

Universe, please cooperate.

daba-daba

What a way to start the morning.

I woke up due to the (lo)commotion outside the street. When I looked over the window, people were running and shouting and there was black smoke everywhere. At first I thought it was just my mom's backyard fire gone wild! She usually piles up dry leaves and trash in the backyard then burn them (tigul-it na, indi gd magpati nga indi na pwede gnahimo nya). But no, she was downstairs shouting and asking my niece to find her anti-hypertensive meds. In short, ga sala-sala. My father, in true blue ususero mode, was out in the street asking the what/where/why of the commotion.

I, on the other hand, am frantically trying to find the contact number for the police/fire station. FAIL! I discovered 166 does not work. It's supposed to be the local emergency hotline. Next, I tried Lapaz PD but the line was busy. The telephone directory cover where the emergency numbers are listed was torn. *shrug* I'm sure one of the neighbors have called the fire department by now. *cue fire alarm*

Going back to my mom. If she had the power to be in two places at once, she would have used that power earlier. One to find her meds and the other gathering her important documents, jewelries and maybe the oven and refrigerator, too. But since she needed a little help, I found her meds IN HER BAG, calmed her down a bit, and almost tripped on the pile of folders/envelopes on the floor. At least she achieved one of her goals hehe

Anyhoo, the fire was two houses away from us. The usual faulty electrical wiring was the culprit. The fire was contained after about 30 minutes.

The upside to all these was when I saw two chinoy volunteer firemen park beside our house and gear up in their uniform. HOT! I'm one of those women who find men in uniform sexy ;p

So after all the hoolala, I'm trying to find the emergency numbers that actually work, save them in my phone and thanking God (and the firemen) for our safety.

Update:

117 is the current 3-digit hotline for criminal reports and local government agencies in Iloilo City. It's working, I tried.

turtles

I'm fascinated by turtles.

1999 was the year I bought my very own pet. A red-eared slider, 3 inches long. Cost me 150 bucks. I named him after my favorite musician, Ludwig (never knowing the turtle's sex at that time). Good thing it's a HE.

You can't go wrong with having a pet turtle. Provide some space, a little water, food, interaction and that's it.

I always thought turtles were herbivores. Well, they're not. Ludwig ate the tails of 75% of his aquarium-mates, the angel fishes, during his growing years.

He was a year old when our helper gave me two more turtles(local ones, brown and ordinary). I named them "daku" and "gamay".

So there they were. Three turtles imprisoned in a small aquarium. For three years I kept them there, playing(turtle marathon) with them once in a while. Most of the time forgetting about them.

Then one morning I decided to set them free. Free to roam the backyard, that is. They were everywhere. Near the well, under the "dapug", all over the grass, floating when the backyard is flooded. It's quite fun to watch them crawl and snap at the dogs during mealtimes. One time, Ludwig (he's the more adventurous of the three) crawled out and crossed the street. Good thing our neighbor saw him and gave him back to us. He was quite grumpy after that (Ludwig, not our neighbor).

Turtles are useful too. I brought Ludwig during our zoology class' show-and-tell as our group project. He was quite large after 4 years, about the size of my palm. Everybody was gushing on how cute he is (second only to the other group's baby goat, but i digress). He responded by nipping and cutting my classmate's finger. The class then learned that turtles do not carry RABIES. The discussion was funny actually. Stupid but funny. My classmates never forgot Ludwig.

Last month, I bought another turtle. It was an unplanned purchase. We were on our way down from Mambukal resort's "7 Falls" when this child came up to me asking if I wanted a turtle. I asked the child what he'd do to the turtle if it wasn't sold. He answered in a matter-of-fact way "I-adobohon kag kan-on magdaku sya e." *gulp* So that's how I went home with another turtle. A small, malnourished turtle worth P20. I keep telling myself the deal was a steal plus I "saved" a turtle's life. His name's Mambu, btw.

So what's the point to all these stories? Nothing. I just felt like writing about my growing pet turtle collection.

Here's a photo of Ludwig taken last year when he graced me with his presence. He needed a bath.

return of the comeback

Oh blogspot, how i missed you so!

I was browsing my previous blog entries and I kinda missed writing again. Too many things have happened but it felt too little in the grand scheme of things. ah basta

Plus, I felt disappointed with my posts. Maybe because I felt self-conscious about every post in the latter years(since more people knew about it. more = greater than 2 persons) that my writing style became awkward and became more of a will-this-please-them blog entry.

So, I'll just write. Write what I feel. Write whatever idea comes to mind. Right? Right.

In other news:

Rafa won the Wimbledon and all clay court championships.
La Furia Roja won the 2010 World Cup.
What a year for Spain.
What a year for all fan girls all over the world.

I know, the 2010 World Cup deserves a separate post. *giggle giggle*
